Monday, February 19, 2018. There was a major car accident at Pearland Parkway and Broadway (518). A Hummer and Chevy Cobalt collided. The driver of the Cobalt was life-flighted to the hospital. The female driver of the Hummer fled the scene and was later arrested at her home.
The Brazoria County Appraisal District has completed a reappraisal of about 15,000 that were damaged due to hurricane Harvey.

Pearland ISD will fall short by 30 minutes of instructional time because of the two ice days. As a result, Pearland ISD is extending the school day by six minutes each day the week of February 12 – 16.
SH-288 southbound will have one outside lane closed every day from 9a.m. until 3p.m. through January 31, 2018.
The Pearland Police Department has hired three new police officers, bringing the total number of officers to 101.
A City of Pearland contractor will be doing construction work on Bailey Road starting on January 31, 2018. Construction workers and heavy equipment will be present and require daily lane closures. Drivers need to be extra cautious due to lane closures and flaggers and the increased risk of car accidents.

However, if any additional school days are canceled, the days will need to be made up in the summer or during spring break. Around lunch time there was a vehicle crash on SH 288 frontage road.

Pearland ISD and Alvin ISD are open today after being closed for two days because of icy road conditions. Alvin ISD schools west of 288, including Mary Burks Marek Elementary, Laura Ingalls Wilder Elementary, Glenn York Elementary, and Nolan Ryan Junior High are asking students to bring several bottles of water to school to drink. Extra hand sanitizer will be available at the schools. Shadow Creek Ranch Area schools are mobilizing drinking water coolers to schools so that they may remain open during the boil water notice.

Due to a major equipment failure at the Kirby Water Production facility, Pearland residents west of 288 are required to boil their water. Residents west of 288, including Shadow Creek Ranch, lost water pressure for several hours starting around 6pm Wednesday evening.
What is believed to be the first fatality due to icy roads occurred Tuesday night on the Gulf Freeway (45) near Dixie Farm road according to the Houston Police Department.

A winter storm warning is in effect until Wednesday. Many flights at Intercontinental Airport and Hobby Airport have been cancelled or delayed. Pearland schools and daycare centers are closed. Residents are warned to stay off the icy roads and only drive if necessary. The number of car accidents over the next 24 hours is expected to dramatically increase.
